Jaguar XJS Useful Links

Internet is a big help these days, however full of scam and greedy individuals. Instead of searching through the Google for several weeks – have a look at the links below to save your time… My opinions are independent and based on personal experience:

XJ-S 3.6 Workshop Manual

Most useful link on the list. Goes above Kirby’s book – as this manual is purely for AJ6 3.6 owners.

An absolute must-have. Much shorter than 5.3 V12 version. Shorter means less issues. Jaguar 3.6 engine can be compared to high tech David, while 5.3 V12 is a true Goliath, but made out of wood by engineers playing rock-paper-scissors with its design.

Plenty of different versions of 3.6 manual, the one on the photo comes from JagDocs website which no longer exists. The PDF file is approx. 70mb – let me know if you need “help” with getting your copy…

Jaguar XJ6 Repair Manual Haynes

If you are willing to do anything to AJ6 3.6 Engine - this is what you will need. Workshop manual above is lacking photos and extensive descriptions. This is a perfect supplement.

Everything in one place, however referenced to different model hence sometimes aligned with different components. Click here to DOWNLOAD

XJS Help Kirby Palm

Help for the Jaguar XJ-S Owner – by Kirby Palm

Here’s the good thing about XJS, Kirby spent last decade to polish it up and now here it is for free. Available for download from unfortunate domain “jaguar-lovers”. Kirby made excellent book about V12 in reality of United States. Nobody managed to do the same with XJS 3.6 and 4.0 – so here I am, still having 37 years to my retirement age so plenty of time to think about the concept and content. What Kirby forgot to mention in his book and as per statement of his neighbour – Mrs. Kovalsky – a number of three Jaguars were burning in front of Kirby’s house within only 5 years. There is also a rumour about unseen crying and whining sounds coming out from his workshop. Apparently, that devastated property price in his postcode area. Click here to DOWNLOAD.

JagRepair.com

My favourite one. There are some truly generous people around the world – spending their time and resources on the websites like this one. DONATE, DONATE IMMEDIATELY so maybe the owner won’t shut it down and your leaping leged won’t  go through the drain. Extensive source of PDF specifications for entire Jaguar family. YOU MUST download electrical diagrams and review Technical Service Bulletins – which were sometimes released years after service manuals mentioned above. This site won’t be online forever… Simply Excellent.

HTTRACK

This website holds the secret of life. It’s called “website copier”. A tool allowing to save website in the folder on your hard drive and browse it forever. Sooner or later, every website will perish. Due to rust and natural selection, with every minute the amount of XJS cars on the road is decreasing same as the number of owners. Decreasing amount of owners – means less interest with the XJS topic. Less interest with the topic equals less websites.

One day you will die, and documentation captured this way may help your grandchildren with starting it up. Not mentioning that documentation obtained this way may be worth more than your XJS itself… Copy everything. If you’re owning XJS – you will learn how to use it.

SNG Barratt - Online Store

Premium store with good quality of parts (as per June 2020), quick delivery – all of those reflected in price of their parts. International deliveries.

Highly recommended for high workload repairs and critical parts - that normally turns out to be absolute shit with use of different sellers. Their website can be used as reference for bolts and nuts as the threading and length is usually specified.

Jaguar LandRover Classic (former JaguarClassicParts)

Good stockist, confirmed dozens of times. They’ve changed the name and website look with the end of 2019. Biggest disadvantage is their narrow assortment for XJS, often you will be caught by minimum order quantities for small items (still good deal). Average delivery time 5-7 days with everything in place. While doing orders of 30+ items – only once tiny seal was missing (later on sent by them with priority delivery and no additional costs). Excellent choice for special screws, bolts, seals, gaskets. Their website also can be used as reference for bolts and nuts – they’re using same web catalogue with assembly drawings – as SNG Barratt. Before their website went through refreshment – it was possible to capture it completely for offline use as multimedia catalogue on your laptop or phone.

British Parts UK

Name of this store reflects the quality and national standards - don’t you dare to think it’s robust and reliable. Narrow assortment. Cheap replacement parts made in small batches containing setters and defaced parts (scrap). That includes undersize brake pistons scrapped by the CNC operator – with use of several hammer hits, prop shaft seals having runout of 2.5mm etc. Ask any known CNC machinist to provide translation if you’re not catching it…

Regardless of what’s above – store is having good deals for some of the non-critical parts or parts easy to replace. Expect mistakes during the order despatch and always inspect your parts dimensionally prior to assembly. Want to make a quality repair – order 5 parts, pick the best one and return the rest…

David Manners Ltd / JagSpares

Avoid. I gave them two or three chances. Really greasy store -OR-store selling from the shop floor with its own, obsolete website which is not updating prices at all. It seems however that there is a lot of scam involved and prices are always higher than on their website”. When you’re calling them to ask where is your order, nice chap will inform you that there was a problem with price and you have to pay more. When you’re calling to ask where are the missing parts form your order (often those which were the main reason of purchase), nice champ will inform you that the other components were more expensive so they’ve adjusted your order by cutting few components short and despatched it (balance always match the order price, nothing in credit – wow, what a coincidence!). Street gambling.

Xjs Club

With one-time membership purchase – this seems to be very attractive website. Well, maybe until you’ll purchase it and go through its content, unchanged over the last 5 years… No doubt this is related to the number of XJS cars still on the road. Those cars are dying, changing into dust, same as their elderly owners. Their Forum also died. Every XJS owner should support them by spending £10, even if you’re member already (I purchased it 2 times so far). And don’t cheat with the password! Extra brownie points for initiative.

Jaguar Forums

Plenty of those, 10 years ago useful source of information you were able to find everything out there. Today you must be truly bored to read this crap, you can still find diamonds between: loads of shit, non-constructive argues and brainless moderators afraid of IP Law which killed this form of information-exchange forever.
